Garfield has strong opinions about Monday, a day he doesn't have to work through. That is part of his appeal. Anyone facing a full laundry basket or an early alarm can recognize the feeling, even without agreeing that another helping of lasagna is the answer.

There is a familiar household mood behind Garfield coloring pages: the comfortable spot somebody has claimed, the meal worth waiting for, and the reluctance to leave either one. His grumbling can be funny precisely because it concerns such ordinary things. A cat with very few appointments still manages to make a busy human's complaints sound reasonable.

Coloring Ideas for Garfield Pages

Try these creative ideas to make the most of your coloring sheets.

Give Garfield and Pookie a Familiar Quilt

A favorite bedspread could supply the colors for the quilt tucked around Garfield and Pookie. It might have broad stripes, small flowers, or just one familiar shade that makes a bed feel ready for sleep.

Color Garfield orange and Pookie a soft brown, then borrow two colors from that real bedspread for the curved quilt sections. Small patterns can be added inside a few sections if you would like them.

Let the main bedspread color fill the section nearest Garfield, then put the second shade in the section below. Alternate the pair toward the bottom edge. If you add a flower or stripe, keep it inside one printed section, like a piece of patterned fabric sewn into a quilt.

Put Garfield in a Favorite Team Uniform

Garfield is already dressed for baseball, with a cap, striped shirt, and bat held ready. A favorite local team's colors could turn the uniform into one that belongs beside the real jerseys at home.

Try a white uniform with blue stripes and a blue cap, or borrow the colors worn at a game you enjoyed. Keep the bat a warm brown beside his orange fur.

If there is room on the cap, you could add a small initial for your town or team. The ball on the ground and the plate below Garfield already give him a place to stand. His rather unimpressed expression can stay exactly as it is, whatever colors the team wears.

Let Chef Garfield Help Plan Breakfast

The single egg in Garfield's frying pan is a useful starting point for choosing a real breakfast. Sit the page beside a scrap of paper and ask everyone at home which breakfast they would order for a weekend morning.

Keep the chef hat white, with a red apron and a yellow yolk in the pan. The tomato and carrot on the counter can bring their own red and orange beside him.

Write the choices on the separate sheet, then pick one meal that can actually be made with what is in the kitchen. Someone might choose eggs, someone toast, and someone a plate of fruit. Garfield can supervise the planning while a grown-up handles the cooking.

Weave a Paper Basket for Garfield

The basket beneath Garfield's balloon has a woven pattern that could become a small paper addition. Cut a rectangle of brown paper to fit over the basket, with a grown-up helping younger children with the scissors.

Fold it in half and cut a few slits from the folded edge, stopping before the outer edge. Unfold it and weave narrow strips of lighter paper through the slits, alternating over and under.

Glue the finished rectangle over the printed basket, trimming it to leave Garfield's paws visible at the rim. A red and cream balloon above the brown weave would give him a cheerful ride. Keep the printed ropes clear between the basket and the broad balloon panels.
